In the first five months of the year, cumulative sales of tractors set a new record, exceeding 370 thousand units and marking +7% over the same period last year. If demand for agricultural machinery were to remain at these levels in the second half of the year as well, the country could close the twelve-month period with a new all-time high, thus bettering the record of 912 thousand vehicles sold in 2022. The scenario is radically different in North America, where the agro-mechanical sector recorded a double-digit drop. Between January and May, tractor registrations in the United States dropped by 12.2% to just under 117,000 units, with a negative balance of more than 14,000 units compared to the same period in 2022. The market is also slowing down in neighbouring Canada, where sales dropped 14.1% to around 12,000 units. In the case of the two North American countries, the downturn in the segment comes after a prolonged expansionary phase that had taken it to all-time highs. Nei primi cinque mesi dell’anno le vendite cumulate di trattrici fanno registrare un nuovo record, superando le 370 mila unità e segnando +7% sullo stesso periodo dello scorso anno. Se la domanda di macchinari per l’agricoltura dovesse mantenersi su questi livelli anche nella seconda parte dell’anno, il Paese potrebbe chiudere il bilancio dei dodici mesi con un nuovo massimo storico, migliorando così il record dei 912 mila mezzi venduti nel 2022. Scenario diverso in Nordamerica dove il settore agromeccanico registra una flessione a doppia cifra. Tra i mesi di gennaio e maggio, infatti, le immatricolazioni di trattrici negli Stati Uniti sono calate del 12,2%, fermandosi poco al di sotto delle 117 mila unità con un saldo negativo di oltre 14 mila unità sullo stesso periodo del 2022. Il mercato frena anche nel vicino Canada, che vede calare le vendite del 14,1%, con un totale di circa 12 mila unità. Nel caso dei due Paesi nordamericani la flessione del comparto arriva dopo una prolungata fase espansiva, che lo aveva portato ai massimi di sempre. Il fenomeno è stato evidente soprattutto negli Stati Uniti, che tra il 2016 e il 2021 hanno vissuto un quinquennio di crescita ininterrotta, culminata nel 2021 con il record di circa 318 mila macchine vendute. La contrazione vista nel 2022 (-14,8%) e in questa prima parte del 2023 può essere considerata come una “pausa tecnica”, tanto più che la domanda statunitense esprime ancora volumi elevati, sensibilmente superiori a quelli visti negli anni pre-pan-
