LG 140, a trailer with 24 ton capacity

Up front at EIMA 2016 is the Ferruzza stand featuring the new LG 140 trailer. The strong points for this new trailer are the augers at the base of the tank and a slewing structure with low noise and vibration levels

With a 24 ton load capacity the LG 140 trailer equipped with auger conveyors, designed for the transport of grain products and animal feed and built by Ferruzza Officine Meccaniche in Ribera in the Agrigento province, is coming up for presentation at EIMA International 2016. The trailer, which was recently given European type-approval in France, features auger conveyors under the floor of the container with a lower bend and a 360° hydraulic rotation of the auger boom. The lower bend is made up of an oil-immersed 90 degree bevel gearbox patented by Ferruzza. The auger boom rotation is performed by means of a toothed ring-pinion gear controlled by hydraulics. Other strong points for the LG 140 trailer are that the auger conveyors located under the floor of the container and inside the boom are supported by end and intermediate bearings ensuring reduced noise and vibration levels. The auger bearings have a labyrinth seal and can be greased from outside with a grease gun. The trailer can reach an unloading rate of 2.1 m3/min at a PTO speed of 540 rpm, depending on the type of product and on the dryness level. The Ferruzza Officine Meccaniche LG range of trailers includes three more models, the single-axle LG 70 with a load capacity of 11 m3, the single-axle LG 120 with a capacity of 16.5 m3 and two-axle LG 140 at 20.5 m3. With these models, the Sicilian company confirms its vocation for technological innovation, a vocation that has led it to arrive early at a number of technological solutions. The new European Regulation 167/2013 (known as the “Mother Regulation”) together with the combined provisions of the European Regulation 208/2015, has introduced the “double action” mixed-automatic system for hydraulic braking. The Sicilian manufacturer emphasizes in an information note that the Officine Meccaniche Ferruzza had already developed this system back in 1982 (patent no.1205321), perfecting it thanks to successive trials conducted first at the Institute of Agricultural Mechanics of the University of Bologna in collaboration with the CPA of Bologna, and later in Settebagni (RM), at the Research Centre for Vehicle and Device Testing of the Ministry of Transport.
