Founded in 1977, Safim is a company from Modena specializing in the design and manufacture of brake master cylinders and brake systems for off-road vehicles such as, for example, tractors, loaders, lift trucks, mobile cranes, backhoes, mining vehicles, and airport vehicles. A great strength of the Emilian company has always been the ability to understand the trends of demand, and consequently the specific needs of its customers, thus offering customized solutions on global markets where it can boast solid commercial partnerships with the largest OEMs of the sector. It is precisely this characteristic that has enabled the company from Modena to grow gradually, opening branches in India, and just this year also in France, where Safim Brakes France is a major logistical hub and support. At the Bologna event, Safim arrives with an innovative dual-line trailer braking system with springs for emergencies and parking, compliant with the requirements of EU Regulation 2015/68 for the Regulation for Vehicle Braking Requirements (RVBR). But here is how the device works: while the tractor-trailer combination is parked, it does not receive any pressure from the tractor, and therefore the springs keep the brakes on. Instead, in the release phase, the tractor begins to exert pressure on the springs, which are compressed and the brakes are released. As explained by the manufacturer with a detailed technical presentation of the braking system, during the braking phase the control line is pressurized, thus acting on the service piston. This is what happens in “normal” situations. However, should there be a random uncoupling of the trailer from the tractor, the connection joint between the two would separate, activating an automatic braking. In this case the operator can manually release the trailer brakes by means of a suitable hand pump.
