New rules for the circulation of agricultural machines in Italy

The amendments to articles 110 and 105 of the Italian road traffic code introduce important innovations for the circulation of agricultural machinery. The first amendment allows the registration of tractors and other types of agricultural machinery to those who carry out agricultural activities only at an amateur level (hobby farmer), who will be able to register and drive on the road in normal transfers from the field to the garage. The new regulation provides that the vehicles registered by hobby farmers cannot exceed the weight of 6 tons, and authorizes dealers to register in their own name agricultural machines, which can thus be considered as zero chilometer machines.

The second modification concerns the maximum length of agricultural convoys which, with the new standard, goes from 16.5 to 18.75 meters. Convoys with a length exceeding 18.75 meters will still be able to circulate as "exceptional transports".
