Le testate di raccolta per i tuberi I tuberi sono fusti sotterranei ingrossati, con funzione di accumu- lo di amidi (come ad esempio le patate, Solanum Tuberosum) e/o zuccheri solubili (come la barbabietola da zucchero, Beta Vulgaris var. Saccharifera). Analogamente a quella delle cipolle, per la rac- colta dei tuberi non è possibile avvalersi della parte epigea della pianta, perché nel periodo maggiormente propizio quest’ultima è senescente, e pertanto non idonea al prelievo per estrazione. Le macchine per la raccolta dei tuberi, sia trainate che semoventi, sono solitamente caratterizzate da elevate dimensioni. L’apparato di dissotterramento e raccolta del prodotto è solita- mente composto da un numero variabile di vomeri, a seconda del- la larghezza di lavoro della macchina ed un sistema di tastatori che adeguano la loro profondità di intervento, per estrarre conve- nientemente i tuberi. A volte viene aggiunto un apparato di defo- gliazione, che separa i tuberi dall’eventuale materiale vegetativo ancora presente. I tuberi vengono poi sottoposti ad una prima pu- lizia, tramite crivelli e/o spazzole, per separare il prodotto da even- tuali zolle di terreno e residui. Dopo ciò, il prodotto è convogliato nella tramoggia di stoccaggio della macchina, oppure conferito nei cassoni di appositi rimorchi per il trasporto.
