Garden machinery, sales drop between January and September

25.11.2022
The economic situation slows down the market of gardening and green area maintenance machinery and equipment. The data relating to the nine months from January to September - released by the Comagarden builders' association on the basis of the Morgan survey group - show a decline for almost all the machines. Lawn mowers recorded a 20.7% drop compared to the same period last year, with a less negative trend for battery-powered models which dropped by only 8.7%. Brushcutters recorded a decrease of 10.3% (battery-powered models grew by 1.7%), and chainsaws decreased by 12.7%, with the battery-powered segment in sharp contrast (+13.8%). The only segment that recorded sales growth compared to 2021 is that of pole pruners. The decline in sales can be considered partly physiological after the record 2021 year - explains Comagarden - but it is also caused by factors related to the current economic situation. On the industrial side, the delays in the supply chain and the growth in energy, logistics and transport costs are slowing down deliveries and reducing  the production capacity of companies; on the demand side, the increase in list prices and the general economic uncertainty are weighing down the purchases of machinery.
