Raw materials, another year in emergency

04.02.2022

There is no evidence that the emergency related to the the raw materials crisis will ease in the short term. After the peak reached in the past months, in these first weeks of 2022 commodity prices are keeping high levels, much higher than those recorded before the pandemic. This is the analysis formulated by the Italian association of agricultural machinery manufacturers, FederUnacoma, which launched together with Pricepedia a periodic monitoring of trends of the main raw materials used by the agricultural machinery industries. According to the report signed by FederUnacoma and Pricepedia, the rest of the year should not see those extreme increases that characterized 2021, though a real trend reversal is not on the horizon. Inflationary pressures will therefore continue to be the leitmotif in the coming months as well, albeit with some differences for individual commodities. While copper, aluminum, steel and polypropylene should still remain at their highs from 2020, there could the possibiluty for a significant decrease of energy prices (Brent, gas and electricity), but not before the start of 2023.
