Automation, rationality and safety were the keynote themes of the annual “Innovation Challenge Lucio Mastroberardino” organised by the Unione Italiana Vini. The competition, which features two separate categories — the “Technology Innovation Award” for next-generation technologies and the “New Technology” prize for solutions judged most innovative against specific criteria — was decided during the Enovitis in Campo event, held on 18–19 June at Cantina Marramiero in Rosciano (Pescara). The 2025 Technology Innovation Award went to Black Shire’s RC 3075 robot, an autonomous tool carrier powered by a 75-hp Kubota internal-combustion engine paired with an electric generator that drives brushless electric motors for the rubber tracks and a hydraulic pump supplying energy to attachments. Winning the New Technology accolade were the Antonio Carraro Tony 8900 TRG tractor, particularly suited to vineyard work thanks to 45-degree final drives that lower the centre of gravity to just 140 millimetres; COBO’s “Robot on demand” driver-assistance system, which uses artificial intelligence to fuse GPS and LiDAR data while analysing images in real time; and Dondi’s new Vitis and Olea series wire weeder-suckering implement for tool carriers, whose standout features include a broad rotor-speed range, a hydro-pneumatic system for simpler inter-row control and an adjustable hood.
