eaf vegetable selection, whether spinach, lettuce or leafy herbs such
as basil, is a major headache for market gardeners when preparing
their produce for market, but they have now received a helping hand
from Ortomec, a company known for its vegetable harvesters and related
tools. For Agritechnica, the company has produced the Selecta Stock, a se-
lection table for warehouse use, designed to facilitate the removal of sto-
nes, earth and other extraneous matter from the crop as well as the se-
lection of the best produce for sale as Range IV vegetables for direct con-
sumption. Ortomec already produces a series of selection tables for on-field
use, offering high performance at the beginning of the processing chain, so
the Selecta Stock adds a new link to an expanding range. The harvested
leaves are unloaded onto the machine’s conveyor belt, which dumps them
into six pierced shaker trays, with varying hole sizes according to the vege-
table being handled.The produce is also cleaned as it is selected.The new
machine can also push its own envelope. If a mixture of various types of
leaf vegetable is put onto the belt, the shaker trays perform the useful task
of creating a well-mixed mixed salad.The Selecta Stock is electrically powe-
red and has four wheels so that it can be moved easily. The frame is in hi-
gh-resistance stainless steel, which also satisfies all health and hygiene re-
quirements. Ortomec is based at Cona, a small town of just over 3,000, lo-
cated on rich and productive horticultural land just 4 meters above sea le-
vel, a few kilometres inland southwest from the Venetian lagoon.

ovità in arrivo dalla Ortomec, impresa veneziana (la sede è
a Cona nell’entroterra della laguna veneta) specializzata nel-
la realizzazione di raccoglitrici e di sistemi complementari per
la raccolta di ortaggi a foglia destinati alla IV gamma. La casa ve-
neta infatti ha da poco lanciato sul mercato una nuova tavola va-
gliatrice, una macchina sempre più richiesta dai confezionatori di
ortaggi a foglia perché consente non solo di eliminare i corpi estra-
nei (residui vegetali, terra e altre impurità), ma di selezionare le fo-
glie migliori, incrementando la qualità del prodotto finale. Il model-
lo sviluppato dalla Ortomec – denominato Selecta Stock – è un’ap-
plicazione da magazzino che va ad integrare la gamma di tavole va-
gliatrici per il campo, e che offre prestazioni di alto livello anche al-
l’inizio della catena di confezionamento. Le foglie – spiega con una
nota la casa costruttrice – vengono posizionate sopra un nastro tra-
sportatore dal quale vengono convogliate verso sei vassoi scuoti-
tori a foratura intercambiabile (facilmente adattabili alle dimensio-
ni delle diverse piante da trattare), e dove vengono eseguite le ope-
razioni di pulizia e di selezione del prodotto. Inoltre, con la nuova
macchina della Ortomec si possono ottenere squisite misticanze: è
sufficiente depositare sul nastro trasportatore le casse contenenti
i diversi tipi di foglie e, grazie al salto dei vassoi scuotitori, si ottie-
ne il “mix” delle diverse varietà. Equipaggiata con un sistema di ali-
mentazione elettrico e dotata di quattro ruote girevoli che ottimiz-
zano la movimentazione della macchina, Selecta Stock ha un telaio
in acciaio inox, ad alta resistenza, che risponde perfettamente alle
esigenze igienico-sanitarie delle catene di confezionamento al fine
di garantire la qualità sotto tutti i punti di vista. Un vero salto di qua-
lità per la foglia.
