Among the many innovations presented by Carraro at Agritechnica, the leading role goes to the hybrid power supply technology for specialized tractors, the Powertrain Mild Hybrid, which provides the synergistic work of a combustion engine and an electric one.  The internal combustion engine is a Carraro 3E22 (a 3-cylinder 2227 cm3 which delivers 55 kW) specifically designed for the needs of high added value crops (it is also available in a variant for construction machinery). At the Hanover exhibition, it was presented in the version designed to comply with T3B, Stage V, China IV and Bharat IV regulations on pollutant emissions. The 3-cylinder Carraro internal combustion system integrates with a 20 kW 48V electric motor and a transmission, combined with an IFAS front axle suspension. “This constructive solution provides the same advantages of a 100 Hp engine, with the great advantage of optimizing fuel consumption”, assures the company from Campodarsego (Padua) with a note. The heart of the Carraro hybrid technology is the small size of the endothermic engine and an intelligent management of the electrical boost function, which lightens the loads of the diesel engine during the transport and work phases. But this is not the only strength of the Powertrain Mild Hybrid. The manufacturer states that “the use of a downsized internal combustion engine of only 55 kW allowed us to comply with the requirements of the Stage V standard without the need to install an SCR catalytic converter”. This provided significant benefits both in terms of cost and overall dimensions of the machine.
