New SPV ACCESS and SPV POWER mixer wagons by Kuhn were a pair of noteworthy machines on show at the recent Fieragricola. These self-propelled mixer wagons have been designed for livestock raisers with 80 or more head of dairy cattle and for facilitating work in the limited spaces typical of the buildings of these enterprises. These models feature capacities of 12 m³ to 17 m³ and the milling heads turn out 90 Hp for the ACCESS machine and 120 Hp for the POWER model. The SVPs are very compact machines, taken down to 15 m³ and height at less than 3 meters and are extremely maneuverable thanks to the rear steering axle enabling the steering radius as slightly less than 6 meters. This means the mixer wagons are ideal for gaining access to narrow feeding passages and troughs for direct feeding. For even further agility the machines can be equipped with new Kuhn mixers and an optional front steering axle for a smaller steering radius down to 5 meters. Another advantage of the front steering axle is increased stability, especially on sloping surfaces, due to the 65% increase of the weight of the machine.

Compact size with maximum comfort in the cab. One of the key features of the SPV ACCESS and SPV POWER models resulted from the restyling of the mixer wagons which optimized their size and bulk. The engines, for example, are mounted between the cab and the hopper and angled at 90° off the line of forward drive to facilitate maintenance and take advantage of the compact built of the machines. The small size of the wagons introduced by Kuhn also allows direct feeding to the right and left with a single pass along the passage to troughs on both sides. For loading the troughs wagon can be equipped with a retractable rubber conveyor below the hopper, the Kuhn restyling also led to greater comfort in the spacious cab. A company note reported, “This way the operator can concentrate only on maneuvers in operations because the SPV ACCESS and SPV POWER provide fluid and comfortable driving. To easily get around obstacles the machine can be controlled with a joystick but there is also a version of a pedal control.”

A universal milling head. Powered by a 170 Hp engine in compliance with the newest European Union exhaust regulations, two models also feature electronic milling with downstroke automatic management 2 meters wide at 90 Hp for the ACCESS and 120 Hp for the POWER producing long-stem fodder, silage and concentrate. Also, the Kuhn machines are equipped with an hydraulic advanced mixing auger which ensures flexibility thanks to two speed options. The auger mixes products selecting one of two speeds at 15 rpm for the ACCESS version or 20 rpm for the POWER version and for the distribution, the forage is quickly loaded quickly at 38 rpm for the ACCESS version and at 50 rpm for the POWER version.
