"The most precious memory? There are many, but the most intense ones are perhaps from the period when it all started. My father Giancarlo welded and assembled the tanks and I helped him with the painting. At that time I also took care of the promotion of our products, travelling the length and breadth of Italy to make our brand known". These are the words with which Lauro Morselli, current CEO of Emiliana Serbatoi, recalls the company's early years. The inspiration is the 40th anniversary of the company's foundation, celebrated in these very days. Emiliana Serbatoi took its first steps on 17 June 1983, quickly becoming one of the leading market players not only in the field of fuel storage, transport and distribution systems, but also in fuel control and management technologies. At the root of it all is a brilliant intuition: to design and build underground tanks for retailers of petroleum products, as well as tanks with a 'gravity-fed' diesel dispensing system. It was a winning project because new safety standards for fuel storage would soon come into force. And Emiliana Serbatoi was ready, boasting in its catalogue a wide range of approved tanks, the Tank Fuel range, fully compliant with the new regulatory requirements. The second 'production leap' came in the mid-1990s with the boom in transportable tanks. Here too, the Modena company anticipated market trends, developing the sturdy Traspo tanks, a range of easily movable steel models that, as the CEO of Emiliana Serbatoi recalls, allowed fuel to be transported anywhere. For the Modena-based company, the new century marks not only the inauguration of the new headquarters in Campogalliano, a strategic location just a stone's throw from the country's main motorway arteries, but also features heavy investment in technology. During this period, various products are launched: Emilmat, an innovative system for managing refuelling, the GLM line dedicated to fuel distribution for private use, and the Emilprobe probe, which, in addition to performing the functions of a traditional level probe, is also an anti-theft device connected to smartphones and computers. In the history of Emiliana Serbatoi there is also another year 'circled in red'. It is 2006, which marks the launch of the first tank models made of plastic, and therefore even easier to handle. The Hippotank polyethylene range, approved for transporting and dispensing diesel, and the versatile Carrytank and Emilcaddy series, which can hold from a few dozen up to several hundred litres, make their debut on the market. Then, with the large-scale marketing of AdBlue, Emiliana Serbatoi also developed a line of tanks expressly dedicated to the additive. The products offered by the Modenese manufacturer include combined solutions for transporting and dispensing both diesel and urea, thus optimising refuelling in the field. In addition to the models in its catalogue, Emiliana Serbatoi also has numerous special projects to its credit, from tanks for winemaking to the vessel refuelling plant at the Mirabello port in La Spezia, as well as UN orders for developing countries. "The ability to look to the future, the ability to offer highly standardised products but also to produce made-to-measure projects, the great attention to the issue of environmental sustainability and team spirit," concludes Morsello, "have allowed us to become a point of reference both for the Emilia production setting and for global markets".
