Fendt 800 Vario, the debut of the fifth generation

After the launch of the 300 series in the 'small' tractor segment (see the last issue of Mondo Macchina) Fendt turns its attention to the high power segment by revamping one of the Marktoberdorf brand's iconic machines: the 800 Vario series. With three models (Fendt 826, 829 and Fendt 832 Vario), the fifth generation of the 800 Vario series covers the power range from 260 to 320 Hp with the Power+, Profi and Profi+ equipment variants and with the extra 23 Hp of Fendt DynamicPerformance (DP) power available on all models. The 826 Vario can thus reach 283 Hp, the 829 Vario 313 Hp and the top of the range, the 832 Vario, 343 Hp. The engine is the six-cylinder CORE80 with 8-liter displacement from Agco Power, developed exclusively for Fendt. Exhaust gas aftertreatment takes place via a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) without exhaust gas recirculation (Stage V compliant). The CORE80 is already approved for HVO100 and features maintenance-free hydraulic tappets. The first engine oil service is scheduled at 500 hours, with no initial 50-hour interval. Technical optimizations allow the transmission oil change interval to increase from 2,000 to 4,000 operating hours or 4 years. The transmission, one of the tractor's strong points, is the single-stage Fendt VarioDrive with permanent, independent all-wheel drive, first introduced in 2014 with the Fendt 1000 Vario and now available for the first time in the Fendt 800 Vario series. This technological solution means that the operator no longer has to manually change range when moving from the field to the road. VarioDrive operates the front and rear axles independently of each other as needed and distributes power dynamically. A further advantage is the so-called "pull-in-turn" effect, it actively guides the machine through turns without strain, ensuring a 10% reduction in the turning radius.

The engine, gearbox, hydraulics and cooling system have been redesigned according to the 'high torque-low engine speed' principle. This way, the Fendt 800 Vario, with the Fendt iD low-speed concept, achieves high torque even at low engine speeds and saves fuel. The nominal speed is 1,700 rpm. Within the main working range, the speed is 1,100-1,400 rpm. The speed of 40 km/h is reached at 950 rpm, 50 km/h at 1,200 rpm and the top speed of 60 km/h at 1,450 rpm. The maximum torque of 1,680 Nm in the top-of-the-line Fendt 832 Vario model is available at just 1,200 rpm.

On the 800 Vario series, Fendt is introducing a new cab with LED Vision or UltraVision headlights for the first time. Eight or twelve headlights can be installed in the cabin roof in both versions. In the UltraVision version, the tractor illuminates the surface with 4,400 lumens per headlight and the headlights are dimmable in five stages. The Vision equipment option allows for 1,000 lumens per headlight. All lights, including the flashing light, are permanently installed in the cabin roof. The cab is equipped with the FendtOne workstation with armrest and up to three display surfaces. The laminated safety glass windshield is heated and, thanks to its special assembly process, is more resistant to contact with foreign bodies. If the Fendt 800 Vario is used with rear equipment, such as a wood chipper or forestry mulcher, all controls can be rotated 180 degrees via the reverse drive factory optional. In addition to the 4-speed PTO, a separate PTO with 540/900/1,000 rpm is available. The new Titanium leather seat electrically adjusts seat height, position and backrest angle via a lever on the side of the seat. Comfort features include multi-stage seat ventilation and heating, four-level lumbar support, adjustable side bolsters, and a massage function with three different programs. The Fendt 800 Vario has six electronic distributors at the rear and two at the front (6+2). In the Power+ equipment line, a maximum of four distributor are available at the rear and one at the front (4+1) or five distributor at the rear (5+0). There are three hydraulic pump options to choose from: 165 l/min, 220 l/min and for users with variable oil volume and pressure requirements, a double pump system is available with a combined maximum flow rate of 385 l/min (165 + 220 l/min). At the rear, optional flat-sealed FFC couplings for the control units and Power Beyond connection prevent contaminants from entering the system and causing oil leakage.
