The Massey Ferguson 8S.265 wins the prestigious Tractor of the Year 2021 award, promoted by the Trattori magazine, which this year took place entirely online due to the Covid-19 emergency. The American company’s tractor succeeded in overcoming the fierce competition of the Armatrac 1254 LUX CRD 4, the Case IH Quadratc 620, the Claas Axion 960 Cemos, the Fendt 1167 Vario MT, the Kubota M 7173 KVT, the Landini Serie 7 V Shift, the New Holland T 6.160 and the Steyr 6240 Absolut CVT, in a category where nine models competed this year. The many technical innovations adopted by the Massey Ferguson tractor convinced the international jury, made up of journalists from the main industry publications. The 8S.265 features a new transmission, a new cooling system, a hydraulic system, and a cab that are also new. On this model, the US manufacturer has also implemented the "technology package" with even richer and more advanced standard equipment (all the details on Mondo Macchina 10-11). The Valtra G 135 Versu won in the "Best of Utility" category, convincing the jurors of the Tractor of the Year with its characteristics of versatility and manoeuvring agility, essential requirements for "all-rounder" machines (the other competing machines were the Armatrac 1004 Lux CRD4, the Case IH Vestum 130 CVX Drive, the Fendt 211 Vario, and the Kubota M 6142). Valtra G 135 Versu stood out above all for the great efficiency of the hydraulic system and its versatility. However, it was the on-board technological systems, with its attention to detail, that made the difference.  The Fendt Vario 211, on the other hand, won in the “Best of Specialized” category which saw three other models competing (Antonio Carraro Tony 8900 V, Landini Rex 3 080 F Stage V, Valtra F 105). In the case of the Vario 211, the jury assessed positively both the new cab, which resulted in a significant improvement in the operator's working environment, and the Dynamic Performance technology that automatically delivers an additional 10 horsepower depending on the changing work needs. Equipped with a very efficient transmission, the Fendt specialized is also prized for its reliability. The sustainability award, the Sustainable TOTY (the winner is selected from among the finalists of the various categories), went instead to the Claas 960 Axion, which stood out from the competitors thanks to its technological equipment, especially with reference to the Cemos system, and the implementation of the on-board electronics, which was made even more intuitive. Another “plus” of the Claas tractor is the optimization of the tyre pressure, which allows the machine to reduce fuel consumption and increase the efficiency of field work.
