Antarctica2 Expedition mission accomplished for the Massey Ferguson 5610 tractor which reached the South Pole last December 9th. Following departure in November from the Novolazarevskaya station on the northeast coast of the continent and 2,500 kilometers and 17 days later – favored by light throughout the 24 hours of the day at the time of year – the goal of the expedition was achieved. Repeating the historic enterprise of explorer Edmund Hillary who reached the South Pole in January 1958 on an expedition carried out on three Massey Ferguson tractors, this one was led by Manon Ossevoort, known for similar feats in the past. Thanks to the support of the celebrated American manufacturer and a team of expert mechanics the compelling mission was brought off by drivers taking turns at the wheel for uninterrupted stretches of 23 hours. The tractor was stopped only briefly for ordinary maintenance and change of driver. The engine of the 5610 ran virtually non stop from the departure of the expedition on November 22nd to the arrival at the South Pole.
