RM thinks green At Agritechnica, the Parma-based company will present its new eSpeedy series of small, self-propelled irrigation machines: two new models featuring a rewinding system that uses 100% electricity from a battery-powered gearmotor and offers electronic management of irrigation parameters. Based on traditional models with turbine/piston rewinding, the new eSpeedy retains their size and dimensions. Currently the range is made up of a smaller machine, the E40, equipped with a 40 mm diameter hose and 130 m in length, intended for use primarily in the irrigation of sports fields, and to the larger E50, equipped with a 50 mm diameter hose and a length of 160 m, which is the reference model for farmers with small plotss, horticulturalists and organic farmers. Going into detail, the new eSpeedy units are equipped with an electric gearmotor with rack and pinion transmission to optimize the efficiency of the system. The motor is powered by a single 18V Li-ION power tool battery, that is interchangeable and easily transportable. According to RM, the battery is the strong point of the entire project as it provides the utmost flexibility and ease of use, making it possible to complete the entire irrigation cycle. The machine is supplied with two batteries and a special fast charger, so you always have one battery working and one charging. The system is patented and represents an advantage over solutions that rely on solar panel charging, always providing maximum electrical power even in low-light conditions or at night. The electronic management is entrusted to a control unit that allows you to adjust the rewinding speed from 0 to 60 m/h, to perform a final pause before stopping the system by closing the electric valve (optional) and to stop the machine in the event of a lack of water pressure. The control unit has been designed with reliability and greatest ease of use in mind, and is protected by a lockable, water-resistant metal casing. The electric rewinding system allows the machine to work even in conditions of very low water pressure, eliminating the typical pressure drops of turbine systems. Rm also points out the mechanical improvement of the water entry into the reel thanks to a solution used by the larger sized models. This solution includes a bearing assembly and outlet equipped with a stainless steel bushing and lip sealing ring: this prevents any leaks and minimizes maintenance interventions. In addition to the aforementioned electric water shut-off valve, various accessories are available, including a spray trolley with width-adjustable wheels, hoses, various types of sprinklers, and an 8 m rain boom.
