The great events: an appointment in Zaragoza

The 40th edition of the Spanish FIMA Agricultural Trade Fair is coming up with 1,500 manufacturers arriving for the exposition on a 160,000 m2 area allocated for the event. Thirty-six awards will be presented in the traditional New Techniques Competition sponsored for the exposition

In the province and the autonomous community of Aragon, by the Ebro river, Zaragoza created the FIMA international review of agricultural machinery in 1964 now Spain’s most important exposition of the primary sector scheduled in 2018 for February 20 to 24. In a tractor market which rose 8% in 2017 with some 12,000 units sold, FIMA will become the first such event of the new year to provide estimates of the prospects for the sector for the Iberian peninsula as well as internationally. The Zaragoza fair will welcome 1,500 companies from around the world to exhibit on 160,000 m2 for a 7% gain over the 2016 edition. The fairgrounds take in 11 pavilions for 11 exhibition categories covering the entire merchandise range for the most varied farming operations. The event will stage two competitions for the promotion of quality and innovations in the field of agriculture. The first, preparing for its second edition, the focus on excellence in Agronomic Management Solutions with awards from the Sat Gavill company for “the value of the prospect of the enterprise’s future sustainability and a positive impact on employment.” The second is dedicated to new technologies, a competition which drew in 68 manufacturers as contestants presenting 115 new entries. The jury of the contest then selected among these 36 innovations of 26 manufacturers. The Outstanding Technology this year is going for the John Deere Iberia for Quik-Knect (Quick Attach) for easily hooking up tractor implements (tractors and self-propelled machines category). Other technology awards are set for the Italian Caffini for Grass Killer, a new cold water weed-killing machine for wine and fruit crops; the SwingStop system pro from Farming Agricola (powered machines and fixed and mobile installations category) an intelligent connected sprayer, the Smartomizer from Pulverizadores Fede in the Agronomic Management category. Some 20 Italian companies are appearing for FIMA either directly or through their Spanish subsidiaries or dealers. Also FederUnacoma, the Italian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Federation, is setting up an institution stand in Pavilion 11, Stand 060, to provide assistance to federation companies, information on the Italian sector as the federation’s activities and present the November 2018 EIMA International exposition in Sala 2 on February 21 at 11:00 a.m. where, in 2016, 65 companies and 2,588 Spanish visitors were in attendance.
