Fast Block, the precision transplanter

by Giacomo Di Paola
October - November 2016 | Back

Optimization of operating cycles and high precision in the placement of seedlings. These are the strengths of the new Fast Block modular and interlocking transplanter, available in towed and self-propelled versions, and characterized by a totally electronic management (all parameters can be set via a touchscreen that also allows you to monitor the transplantation activities). Developed by Ferrari Costruzioni Meccaniche of Guidizzolo (Mantua), this machine has been designed to process only plants in compressed cubic plugs (with lateral dimensions between 3.2 and 5 cm) and the row spacing is adjustable from a minimum of 23 centimetres. Characterized by a very small ploughshare opening (only 7.5 cm) and a claw that separates the seedlings, Fast Block is able to work even with very tall plants and at higher speeds, always working with the utmost gentleness. However, these are not the only benefits of the new model by Ferrari Costruzioni Meccaniche. The Fast Block transplanter can operate in line and in quincunx, with digital setting of the distance on the row from 10 to 100 cm, and with an hourly capacity per element of up to 7000 plants per hour (for a maximum speed of 2.5 km/h). The frame can accommodate several transplant elements (up to 7), each of which is independent of the others and floats on the ground to follow its profile and ensure uniform treatments in terms of depth and distance between the plants. Fast Block is equipped with Cleanermatic, an electronic management system that governs the cleaning of the plowshares by using compressed air. Instead, with regard to the self-propelled version, the transplanter is offered with two or four driving wheels, hydrostatic transmissions (the speed varies from 0 to 12 km/h), trail-following device that controls the direction of travel, “Drive Tronic” system that also allows the operators at the back to adjust the progress, and with 51 Hp, 74 Hp, and 114 Hp liquid-cooled diesel engines. Upon request, it is possible to fit a spare pallet holder directly installed on the front of the machine (only for four-wheel drive versions), thus reducing the loading stops by 70 percent.
