Diesel of the Year awards: the CORE80 engine wins
In February, Diesel magazine awarded the AGCO Power CORE80 engine its Diesel of the Year 2026 award. Developed at the AGCO plant in Linnavuori, Finland, the engine has a displacement of 8.0 liters and six cylinders and delivers a maximum power of 252 kW (338 hp) at 1500-1700 rpm, with a peak torque of 1680 Nm. The wide torque range allows for high responsiveness and superior dynamics, which are essential features in modern off-road vehicles operating under variable load conditions.
Unlike previous generations, the CORE80 stands out for its innovative architecture without EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). The AGCO Power engineering team has in fact chosen to go beyond the traditional system, relying on a high-pressure common rail that works in synergy with a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). The AGCO Power CORE80 engine architecture optimizes footprint without requiring additional cooling or compromising performance, increasing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
The CORE80 complies with EU Stage V and US Tier 4 Final standards, supported by an after-treatment system based on DOC+DPF+SCR technology. VGT technology also contributes to engine braking performance. Another plus of the new CORE80 is its robust structure, created by AGCO technicians with 25% fewer components than previous versions. This reduction in parts, together with the absence of the EGR, improves the reliability of the vehicle while at the same time making maintenance easier.
