The Massey Ferguson lineup of MF 9000 telescopic handlers available on markets abroad are set for introduction in Italy within days in their recently completed updated versions, the parent U.S. multinational marketing division reports. The four models in the renewed series are the 9205, 9306 Xtra, 9407 Xtra and the 9407 S Xtra for lifting heights of 5.2 meters and maximum lift capacity at 2.2 tons for the compact 9205 up to lifting height of 7 meters and lift capacity of 3.5 for the flagship 9407 S Xtra model.

Green engines for the Xtra models

One of the new features is the power plant selected for the three Xtra telehandlers, a 4-cylinder 3.6 liter Deutz engine which conforms to Stage 3B/Tier 4 Interim type approval through the high technology of EGR, Exhaust Gas Recirculation, and DOC, Diesel Oxidation Catalyst. These 4-cylinder Deutz environment friendly power plants, strong and high-performance as well as reliable, requiring only simplified maintenance, were the tough and durable engines decided on by the U.S. technicians to ensure a long lifespan for the MS 9000 telehandlers. In this connection, also introduced was a new fuel system with no compromise of the construction architecture of the telehandler. A technical note issued by the manufacturer said, “The engine compartment and cooling system have been slightly modified but they are still mounted under a lowered hood on the right side of the driver.” This location, on the one hand, provides maximum visibility for the operator and, on the other, ensures easy access to the engine compartment for routine maintenance. These dependable Deutz engines are available in two power categories, 100 HP for the MF 9306 Xtra, with a maximum lifting height of 6 meters and lift capacity at 3 tons, and the MF 9407 Xtra, maximum lifting height of 7 meters and lift capacity at 3.5 tons, and the 122 HP engine for the top of the range, the MF 9407 S Xtra with maximum lifting height of 7 meters and lift capacity at 3.5 tons. Among the options for the Xtra telehandlers is a multifunction joystick which incorporates all the main controls needed for operating the boom and attachments to replace the direction lever to the left. With the joystick, the operator can select forward, neutral or reverse with a simple central rocket switch without lifting his left hand from the steering wheel.

An intelligent hydraulic plant

Another strong point of the entire MF 9000 lineup – not only the Xtra machines but also the compact and maneuverable MF 9205 ideal for small barns and poultry raisers – is the load sensing hydraulic system. All functions are electro-hydraulic and proportional. Thanks to load sensing the hydraulics system which, other than being very accurate and easy to use, enables the operator to use three functions simultaneously to increase productivity and reducing downtime. For the MF 9000s the hydraulic flow across the entire range is 100 l/min on all models except the

MF 9407 S, which has a market-leading flow of 190 l/min for outstanding capabilities and performance, even at low engine speeds lower fuel consumption and shortening work cycles. The load sensing pump only supplies oil when hydraulic power is needed. Another feature shared by all the models in the MF 9000 range is the three different steering modes. The operator can select two-wheel steering mode for travel on roads and high speeds simply by pressing a switch in the cab, four-wheel steering to reduce the turning radius to the minimum or the crab-steer mode for maximum traction for filling and grading operations and work in confined spaces or along walls.
